Chapter 4: part 2 of chapter 3
As Jake's presence was discovered, the bandits acted with swift malevolence. They unleashed deadly mana arrows that sliced through the air, leaving smoldering holes in the trees.
With a dancer's grace, Jake evaded the lethal projectiles, his movements guided by a newfound command over mana that temporarily enhanced his speed and reflexes.
Among the bandits, a man who bore the mark of leadership sneered, his voice laced with cruelty. "Get him now!, and ensure no witnesses survive."
In a swift, deadly maneuver, Jake slash the empowered weapon with precision, piercing through one of the bandits. The soul's heart was punctured, and his lifeblood spewed forth. With a mournful gasp, he fell, the darkness claiming him. The encounter had shifted in an instant,
In a blur of ruthless efficiency, Jake retrieved a dagger from the lifeless bandit's body. Before the remaining two could even process the turn of events, he launched himself into action.
With a lightning-fast assault, Jake drove the dagger into the throat of one of the bandits, eliciting a strangled gasp. The wound did not fell him immediately, but in the cruel silence of the forest, the man's desperate struggle for breath was agonizing to witness.
Undeterred, Jake followed up with another brutal strike to the bandit's neck, a final, deadly blow. The bandit's eyes, wide with terror, met Jake's for a fleeting moment before life fled, leaving behind a lifeless body in the forest,
The last bandit's voice trembled in fear, his pleas for mercy filling the air. "Please, spare me. I'm begging you," he stammered, desperation etched in his eyes.
Jake remained resolutely silent, his unyielding gaze fixed upon the trembling bandit. In a final, swift act, he hurled the dagger with a relentless resolve, the blade finding its mark in the man's head. The bandit's pitiful cries were abruptly extinguished, and he crumpled to the ground, his life extinguished in an instant.
With a cold, unforgiving tone, Jake spoke into the stillness that followed, "That's the answer."
Amid the grim aftermath of the encounter, Jake scoured the fallen bandits. His eyes gleamed with a hint of satisfaction as he uncovered a cache of mana stones, their hidden power beckoning to him. With a knowing smile, he absorbed their energy, fortifying his own.
His gaze then fell upon a well-preserved iron sword, an unexpected but valuable find. It gleamed in the moonlight, and he decided to take it, for in this unforgiving realm, one could never possess too many weapons.
But what truly puzzled him was a set of child-sized clothes amidst the bandits' belongings. A shiver of unease coursed through him as he muttered softly to himself, "Why would there be children's clothes with these bandits? Well, I suppose it may serve me well." Without hesitation, he donned the small, rugged attire,
Jake's discovery of a map was a turning point in his journey. With a triumphant smile, he spread it out before him, recognizing the familiar landmarks of his home town. The path to redemption and revenge was clearer than ever, and he marked the location with unwavering determination.
His home town, once a place of trust and betrayal, now lay as a focal point on his map, the symbol of a quest that had just begun. As he set out on this treacherous adventure
