Chapter 7: Crafting
Lucy had barely been inside this school for a few hours and she was already done. She'd had enough. What kind of SICK psychopath would control a school of over eight thousand students to the point of colour co-ordinating even the furniture! She just wanted to leave already! But she couldn’t. This was her last hope to be able to do something with her life. The last school she had yet to try. The last place she had yet to be expelled from. So she just had to stay strong and follow through.
Lucy heard Amelie’s footsteps still following her, so after a sigh to recollect herself, she spun around and asked her where their next lesson was to be. To her pleasant surprise it was a two hour long lesson in the workshops! Perhaps this wasn’t so bad after all…
The school was spread over such a large scope that it took up the next five minutes of walking in silence for the girls to reach their classroom, by which time the other girls had just finished their break and began heading over too. Another four minutes of silence, and then their teacher realised students were arriving and invited them in.
Despite the poor start to the lesson, after having to wait outside the classroom for four minutes before the teacher realised they were there, Lucy actually found herself quite liking the class, not least of all due to the teacher’s total disregard to homework and deadlines. Furthermore, there were two laser cutters that stood at the back of the classroom, which Lucy felt herself longing to use. Laser cutters were a tool Lucy had seldom seen in many of her previous schools, and when they did have one she had been labelled as “too young” to use, but perhaps this time would be different - this school was known for its prestige and creativity after all…
Lucy allowed herself to return her attention back to the class, finding that the teacher was introducing them to a project of their own choosing. Everyone had been given a blank piece of paper on which to sketch and plan their designs for whatever it was they wished to make. Lucy decided to create a plaque with her name surrounded by a few flowers and leaves.
Her technology teacher, Miss Roberts, came round to see everyone's plans. She was so incredibly pleased with Lucy's enthusiasm, she rewarded her with a lollipop. Since she had finished her assignment, Lucy stood to take a further look around the room. There were four windows in the workshop, all along the left hand wall, looking out onto the teachers’ huts below. It was quite beautiful really, the grounds upon which the school was built, but the fact that it was a school at all soured her view. Besides the windows, there were quite a few displays lining the walls, showing off the works of previous students to pass through. Glancing round the displays, she noticed a picture of a house with construction lines on pale blue paper. She thought to herself, it looked a little like… Blueprints!
