Chapter 8: Chapter 8

Down in New York, people were panicking. From the highest building they could see the flood coming right for them, very far away but approaching quickly. People were packing up their stuff and fleeing either to the water or to the highest buildings. The streets were crowded as cars were panicking to get to safe spots. The TVs were all on emergency evacuation screens and sirens were wailing and people were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. “WWEEEEERRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOO” The sirens wailed, while news reporters and weather people were telling how long until the dog flood hit. “Warning! Warning! Immediately evacuate the city or get to high places! We ain't’ got a lot of time before it hits!” The streets were filled with honking cars and screaming people. “KAIA!” a mom yelled to her kid, standing outside behind a trash can. “GET IN HERE!” she yelled, then Kaia got up and ran into her mom’s arms. “Mommy, I'm scared, where’s daddy?” she said as her mom picked her up. “He's in the car with our stuff. Don't be scared, we will be safe. Kaia’s Dad came running in with the final suitcase, adding it to the already large pile. “Come on, sweetie.” Her dad said, then her parents started grabbing their suitcases. Kaia grabbed her backpack and put it on while also taking her small suitcase up to the elevator. Many people were waiting in panic to get in. They stayed on the first floor as the clock ticked. 5 minutes later. The dogs flooded the border of New york. Then, the elevator dinged and people rushed in. Some people just booked it and ran up the stairs. 10 minutes later. The dog flood is approaching New York city. The elevator is back. They get a spot in the elevator with their bagging. 5 minutes in the elevator. The dog flood is in the urban outskirts of the city. They get on the top floor and find a suitable place not too crowded and set up their tents. Three floors were already packed so they went down to the fourth floor. They took the last remaining spot and started to set up their tent. 10 minutes later. They are fully set up but the dog flood is in the inner part of the city and the fifth floor down is full. The amount of people coming into the building has decreased. The family gets settled in as someone yells, “BRACE FOR IMPACT!” right before a huge crash is heard as the whole building starts to wobble, and the floor and ceiling starts to crack. Everyone is tense. The dog flood has surrounded the building. Good news is that the dog flood is a couple 50 floors below them. Smaller building’s tips are only remaining. Then it's complete silence. No one talks or moves. They're all looking around. The silence breaks as someone shouts, “WERE ALIVE!” Then they erupt into celebration and people are cheering, until someone from the fifth floor comes up. “The dog flood is in the building, but it’s -gasph pant- around fifty floors down.” he said, looking worn out and sweating. “He was the man who decided to run up the stairs. Hey, at least he survived.” Kaia thought, peering through the tent entrance at the man. “We can create a civilization. A rich guy said. “We can make a school, a market, a play place- we need to make the best out of this situation.” he said, standing up on a chair. “Who’s with me?!” he yelled. The crowd erupted into cheers as a democracy was formed. 4 weeks later, Kaia was used to living in the tower, and Democracy had elected the rich guy, now known as “president smith” and he ruled well. They called their civilization “the ESB clan, and people lived off of the gardens and the pigeons. They established communications and started a trading network with their neighbors.. But disaster struck when the tower had been completely submerged, leaving no sunlight for growing crops, so UVB lights were put into use. Once school had been completed, Kaia finally started school. She made many new friends, but her best friend was Zoey, and they saw each other every day at school. Today was the weekend, and Kaia went up to the park to meet up with Zoey. “Did you get a good grade on the test?” Kaia asked. “I got a B.” Zoey said. “What did you get?” she asked. “I got an A.” Kaia answered. “Cool! Zoey said, opening her snack bag. “Did you know that Just a few days after we got into the tower, the clan got word from an Asian woman in China that the world had been completely destroyed and that the ocean had filled up? Zoey said, sounding scared. “Yes. I'm glad we are safe here, and hopefully people around the world are also somewhere safe.”
