Chapter 4: The Sweeping of Gutter Part 3

“Gah....”

It could only amaze Adis to see these two things; the monster and the side quest panel appear.

—[Trash of the Tarnished People] those who disobey fall into great sin. Consumed by endless greed and leaving behind regrets without being able to expect mercy from anyone.

—Defeat The Tarnished People, Reward [Soul of Dependance x1, White Soul x50]

“H-huh? What is this? I-I don't understand?” Adis asked with a pale face.

The monster screeched with an intensity that could burst the eardrums of anyone who heard it. However, Adis did not react because he was still in a state of shock and tension.

On the one hand, he wanted to run, but his legs couldn't move because of the terror that gripped him like it shackled them. Adis tried as hard as possible to get up.

The situation was no longer critical, but just above death status. If Adis doesn't move and do something, The Tarnished People will soon crush his slender and limp body.

“A-a-ahh… ahh… hah!”

GRRAARGGGHH!!!

The monster opened its big mouth wide. We can see rows of sharp teeth filled with purple mucus. The shock that occurs because of stomping its enormous feet creates horror sensations.

Now, in the mind of the young man named Adis, only two images of the future appear. The first was that he died from being eaten. The second was that he died because a gigantic monster in front of him stepped him on.

His teeth were grinding, his instincts were confused, like a child who had lost his way in the crowd. Adis hesitated while trying to find a way out. While he dragged his body backwards, The Tarnished People opened the big mouth in his stomach again and took a firm stance.

The monster, four meters tall and as big as a pile of five large sacks, jumped high. Carrying his immense body up in the sky, it surprised Adis to see him.

Without further ado, Adis forced his body to roll to the right side. Luckily, he avoided being crushed by the monster in crucial seconds. If he hadn't acted, the monster could have crushed his body, scattering all his internal organs.

“Th-this must be a dream, right? It's impossible for there to be such an ugly, strange creature in this world,” snapped Adis with wide eyes.

Now relying on the pillar beside him to lean on, Adis could only remain silent for a moment while catching his breath. The monster itself even moves slowly, like a snail, but its strength is not just a figment of imagination.

One attack from the monster was like an iron sledgehammer or an executioner's knife in one fell swoop that could take anyone to another world. However, realizing his slow movements, Adis smiled.

“A-in the end, something else paid for that power, huh?… cough. Even my condition is getting worse... b-blood? Haha-ha. That's right, it seems like this isn't just a dream.”

Adis frowned, then closed his eyes while exhaling. Finally, he had accepted the reality in front of him and didn't question it anymore.

With his current condition, the chance of survival against a large, bushy-mouthed monster seemed very small. However, he did not give up.

(If the only way is to defeat this monster, then I will do it)

"But... my legs are still shaking, is that possible?"

The Tarnished People moved again. Thanks to that, Adis immediately realized that he still had something to do. He didn't think about dying in a miserable place like this.

Whatever happens, one way or another, he must be able to survive. Those were the words he embedded in his own heart.

When his slow steps gave a feeling of terror and the shadow of death, Adis also stepped slowly with fear. Maybe he deliberately made his expression tough, but deep inside his little heart was the deepest. Feelings of fear and helplessness haunted him repeatedly.

(The elevator also doesn't work. The stairs to the second floor via the left corridor are covered in rubble. Besides... this building probably won't last much longer)

The monster screeched loudly. Adis reflexively looked back, only to find its vast mouth shooting a corrosive purple slime straight towards his face.

“Gahh!!—”

However, Adis was quite lucky. Because before the mucus crushed his head and shell, he slipped and fell.

He subconsciously managed to avoid the attack at a crucial moment.

“Hah… huh… c-corrosive liquid?”

On the other hand, the pillars supporting the building that was struck by the attack melted.

“Th-this is serious!”

Adis immediately racked his brain. He tried to find a way out of the terror of the monster, but the entire faculty building had completely lost its function. There are no facilities that he can use, especially in a power outage.

The only light that illuminates the building comes from natural light. The rest is a spark of electric cables that continue to emit static electricity.

Adis looked around, looking for something he could use to get out of the situation.

"Guh... why does the first floor have to be an administration room with guest reception, anyway? I can't find anything—wait!”

After circling all the gaps, Adis's eyes were now fixated on the fire extinguisher tube, and a small ax hanging next to it. However, the tube was quite far away, and was in the corner of the room near the reception desk.

Meanwhile, he was far back near the elevator, and the wide stairs leading to the second floor. The monster is also to the left of Adis, which means the only way he can take the tube is to get past The Tarnished People.

(Is there no other way?)

Adis bit his cuckoo and went back to check whether the fire extinguisher and ax were really there or not. And after confirming it, the tube was indeed there.

Now what you can use to go to the corner of the room is to go past the monster. Or... wait for the monster to jump high and immediately roll quickly to the corner of the room.

“Tchh... I'll bet on this chance...”
