Chapter 1: The birth of a warrior

My father whose name I never knew was born into a royal family and my mother was a peasant. They had fallen in love but they knew they couldn’t bear a single child. It would bring my father’s title of royal blood to dirt.

Nevertheless, my mother was pregnant, and my father could not afford to be a father and abandoned my mother and me. My mother couldn’t afford to take care of me, so she sent me to an orphanage.

I have been living in this camp for fifteen years now. The next month would mark my sixteen birthday. Nevertheless I didn’t know today would be my last day in this camp.

Today marked the selection day, a day where the youth gets evaluated for their class and skills. This was an opportunity for me to escape this hell, I thought to myself. However, what skills do I possess, everyone around me either wielded magic or strength. There are some that wields both magic and strength. Those people are considered the chosen ones.

We were transported from our camps to the academy by horses. There we were all separated into four groups, warriors, mages, warrior-mage, and unknown.

The unknown is the group of those who haven’t awakened their ability yet and after training in the academy, we will be able to unlock our abilities. Obviously, that's where I went.

We were forced to fight each other and depended on our lives. I had never fought anyone, none of us had. Even though it wasn't the prettiest sight I could still fight and try my best.

We trained for a month, running, swimming, wielding weapons, endurance, and anything of the sort to make us stronger.

Almost everyone in our group had awakened our abilities except for me and two other guys. I was quite disappointed with myself but this was the harsh reality.

We were loaded onto a ship and traveled the sea. Another week passed by and it seemed like we had arrived at our destination. It was a strange island covered with fog. We were loaded off with some food supplies, weapons, and tools and told to survive.
